You First Visit

Your First Visit

IMPORTANT: You will need to wear a sleeveless or loose fitting top and, if you have a leg ulcer, you may need to wear loose shoes (and trousers) to accommodate a bandage. If your wound is painful, you may also need to take pain killers before you arrive. Please bring with you any dressings and creams you are currently using. If you come by car or taxi, please sit behind the driver for safety when getting out of the car at the Centre.

On Arrival

When you arrive at the Wound Healing Centre, you will be greeted, made comfortable, offered tea or coffee and provided with information.

You can expect your first visit with us to last at least one hour. During that time, you will become acquainted with the nurses in your team as they ask questions and undertake an assessment.

General Health Assessment

Your blood pressure, waist measurement, BMI, cholesterol and blood glucose will be checked as these are all important markers in your health assessment and will assist us in making clinical judgements on your future care.

Photography

Photography is an important part of the assessment, but we do require your permission to take pictures and you will be asked to sign a consent form. At some point, we may ask you for further consent to use your pictures for educational purposes. You are at liberty to refuse without it affecting your care in any way.

At each subsequent visit your wound will be reassessed and photographed.  Follow up visits will usually take approximately half an hour.
